The Roof Goes Up

Progress on the house is being made. As it all comes together, there are so many people to thank. Mel Friesen, the Site Manager has kept things running smoothly and we're very grateful to him and the many others who are out there everyday.

Also, a huge appreciation is garnered for the businesses that have sent employees. We couldn't do this without your help!

Sweat Equity Hours still loom

As part of being the recipient of a Habitat home, the partner family must complete a high number of 'Sweat Equity' hours. This prerequisite consists of 350 volunteer hours for a single parent and 500 hours for a two-parent family. The families must have these hours completed before moving into the house.

There are many ways to complete sweat equity: volunteering in the community, helping with housing projects, labouring on someone else's home, or working on their own home.

Selected families enter into a partnership agreement with HFHW by signing a contract. Once the sweat equity requirement is completed and the house is built, the family signs an offer to purchase the home.

Both families have been extremely hard at work in and around the community. Here's a shot of the Garcia's volunteering at the rodeo, selling tickets for the Playhouse Raffle:

If you have any type of community work available (volunteer events, yard work, labour) and are in need of great volunteers, please contact Family Selection Committee Chair:

Days 4 & 5 of Building

Elf Crew & Week One

As we near the end of the first full week of building, exciting progress is beginning to be made. There are so many hardworking individuals out there and we have to say a HUGE thank you to you all. This couldn't be done without you. Last night, the 'Elf Crew' went out and cleaned up the site of wood and garbage so that this morning's construction crew could have a clean start. Yes, the walls are going up!
